DRAMA:
MUSIC AND
SOUND DESIGN
My first career was as a sound designer for theatre, and I still enjoy creating sound designs that are atmospheric, complex, funny, subtle, powerful and visceral. My work for director Hilda Hellwig was formative for my style of sound design, which treats both sounds, music and silence as instruments in an expressive sound track composition that is fluid, gestural and emotionally pliable. There is no strict division between sound design and composition in my work for drama: they are both sonic means for shaping the expression of the performance.
